PENGARUH IMPLEMENTASI PROGRAM LITERASI SEKOLAH TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN LITERASI MEMBACA SISWA KELAS V SD NEGERI 064990

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of the implementation of the School Literacy Program on the reading literacy skills of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 064990 Medan. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest model. The research sample consisted of one class comprising 32 students. The research instrument was a reading literacy test administered before and after the implementation of the School Literacy Program. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-sample t-test to determine differences in students’ reading literacy skills before and after the treatment.

The results indicated that students’ reading literacy skills prior to the implementation of the School Literacy Program were in the low category, with a mean pretest score of 62.18. After the program was implemented consistently for six weeks, students’ reading literacy skills showed a significant improvement, with a mean posttest score of 78.94. The paired-sample t-test yielded a t value of 11.42 with a significance level of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. These findings demonstrate that the School Literacy Program has a positive and significant effect on improving students’ reading literacy skills. Therefore, the School Literacy Program can be recommended as an effective strategy to enhance reading literacy skills at the elementary school level.
